FAQ for Students

What should I do if…?

I get lost: You will have time to start familiarising yourself with the school when you start in September. The first day will be for Year 7 students only and your form tutor will make sure you know how to find your way around. If you have come to Summer School in August, you should already be very comfortable with the building. If you do get lost, always ask another student or member of staff to help you find where you need to get to. There are always staff around during lesson changeover.

I’m late for a lesson: Always apologise to your teacher for being late. This will only happen at first as you are trying to find your way around. Teachers will be understanding so try not to worry.

I forgot to add money to my ParentPay account for lunch: If you realise this in the morning let your tutor know during tutor time. If you are unable to do this, go to Student Services who will be able to call home and we can arrange for money to be added to your account.

I lose my computer passwords or login details: The technicians are only available to help with this during break and lunchtimes. Please make sure you go and see them as soon as you can. They are located on the top floor of Trade School.

I have an argument with my friends: If you are unable to resolve this between you then talk to your form tutor first and see if you can resolve the difficulties together. Sometimes talking things through will help improve the situation.

I feel like I am being bullied: Talk to your form tutor straight away and they will refer the issue to the Inclusion Team and Year Group Leader. This will be then dealt with appropriately.

I feel unwell in lessons: If you are feeling really unwell, please talk to your classroom teacher. Depending on your symptoms they may send you to the medical room where they will check if you need to be sent home or whether you can return to lessons.

I need the toilet during lessons: If it is an emergency, ask the teacher if they will allow you to leave the lesson with an Out of Lesson pass. Leaving the lesson to go to the toilet isn’t usually permitted unless you have a recognised medical condition so please make sure you go at break and lunchtime.

I lose my timetable: If you lose your timetable, please speak to your form tutor who will be able to provide you with another one. If they are not available, please speak to Student Services who will provide you with one. To help ensure you do not lose your timetable please keep a spare copy in your bag at all times.

I lose my locker key: Please inform your form tutor and go to Student Services to check if it hasn’t been handed in. If it has not then your parents will need to pay £5 on ParentPay for a replacement key and this will be issued to you during tutor time.

I can’t do my homework: Always find the teacher that has set you the homework and ask them to explain it to you again. Don’t leave it until the last minute; remember to do this before it is due in. Remember that there are Homework Clubs you can attend if you need extra help with your homework or a quiet place to work.

I lose my bus pass: Report this to Student Services; they may have had it handed in. If not, we will ensure that you are able to get home.

I feel too ill to go to school: Your parent/carer should call the school on the first day of absence to report the reason for you not being in school.

I need to leave the school for an appointment: There may be occasions where you will need to leave the site before the end of the day. You will need to bring a letter in with you explaining the reasons why and this will need to be signed by your Year Group Leader. When it is time to leave school please go to Student Services first to receive a permission slip and then show this to the Receptionist as you leave.
