3. What do I need to do to keep myself and others safe?

  • Wash hands regularly and sanitise every lesson
  • Do not have any physical contact with anyone else
  • Do not share equipment and water bottles
  • Stay in your year group bubble
  • Give space to other students and adults
  • We recommend that you wear a face mask in congested areas of the school site, for example, in corridors.  Face masks should be plain with no logo or slogan.
  • If you wish to wear a face mask at other times you may do so including during lessons.
  • If you travel by public bus, the face mask you wear in school must be different to the one you wear on public transport.

4. How will the ‘Test and Trace’ system work?

  • The school is actively engaging with the NHS Test and Trace system.
  • The system allows health care professionals to track who may have been in contact with somebody who has tested positive for Covid-19.
  • They can then help everyone keep safe and reduce the spread of Covid-19 by advising these people to isolate.
  • An isolated case of Covid-19 at the school will not necessarily lead to immediate closure. We will take advice from our local Health Protection Team and do what is best for the school community.

5. What do I bring to school?

  • You will not have a locker for the first few weeks so bring only what you need
  • Pencil case – no pens or pencils can be shared or given out so make sure you have all your equipment
  • A full water bottle.  The canteen will be open for you at break and lunchtime but you can bring a packed lunch if you wish.
  • You will be expected to take home your exercise books/folders at the end of every day – it is YOUR responsibility to bring them in the following lesson.

6. Do I wear school uniform?

  • Yes, students need to be in full school uniform. The school are introducing lanyards with ID cards for all Year groups.  These will be issued to you and must be worn at all times whilst on the school premises.

7. Will I be studying all of my subjects?

  • Yes, all students will continue to study a broad and balanced curriculum.

8. What will lessons be like? Will they be the same as before?

  • There will be seating plans for every lesson.
  • You will not be allowed out of your seat unless your teacher has given you permission.
  • Expectations remain high – teachers will be planning high quality lessons as before.
  • Some lessons may be a little different as there are some activities that we cannot currently offer, for example, some contact sports.

9. Will I be taught by subject-specialists?

  • Yes, staff are allowed to move between bubbles but students are not

10. Will I be taught with the same students for every lesson?

  • Year 7 will be taught in tutor groups for English, CfL, French, Geography and History and a set group for Maths, Science, Art, Drama, DT and Music. PE may also be different group.
  • Y8 will be taught in one group for English, Geography, History, RS and Spanish and one group for Maths, Science, Art, Drama, DT, Food, Life and Music.  PE may also be a different group.
  • Years 9 to 13: You will stay with your year group but not the same group of students. This means that setting of groups can happen.

11. Will my eg. Technology lessons be taught in technology rooms?

  • Yes, students will move to specialist classrooms for subjects needing specialist equipment to allow the curriculum to be delivered.
  • For subjects not requiring specialist rooms you will move between classrooms within the bubble and your teachers will come to you
  • You must pay particular attention to additional health and safety requirements in these areas.

12. Will I be able to use the toilets during the school day?

  • Yes! But you need to use only your allocated toilets nearest the classrooms you will be based in.
  • Wash hands for 20 seconds after use.
  • Students have a responsibility to keep them tidy and use them correctly.
  • Toilets will be cleaned throughout the day.

13. What do I do at break time?

  • You must go directly to your allocated area and remain within it for the whole of break.
  • You can only socialise with friends who are in the same year group and bubble as you.
  • To help other students move through the school safely, you may be asked to move from an area.  You must make sure you follow instructions quickly and sensibly.

14. Will I be able to attend after school clubs?

  • No, not for the first half term. This includes all PE clubs and musical instrument lessons.  The only after school provision will be homework club (until 4pm) and intervention for students in the exam years.

15. What happens if I am ill and need to self-isolate for 14 days?

  • Online lessons will be set as per school closure. These lessons will follow in-school learning so that you do not fall behind.

16. Will I still have PE lessons?

  • Yes – being active is really important!
  • PE changing rooms will be cleaned before each lesson to allow students to change safely.
  • There will be some changes to activities due to Covid-19 restrictions and your teachers will explain these to you.

17. Can I wear a mask in school?

  • You must carry a face mask with you at all times as you may be required to wear them in certain areas of the school if asked to do so – eg during a fire drill or where social distancing is more difficult. You are not required to wear them in lessons.
  • Face masks should be plain with no logo or slogan.  School staff will determine if a mask is not appropriate for wearing at school and any inappropriate use of masks will be sanctioned.
  • If you wish to wear a face mask at other times, you may do so, including during lessons.  However, your parents/carers must contact the school to inform us of this preference so we are aware that you wishe to wear them at all times.
  • If you are unable to wear a face mask for any reason, we ask that the school is also made aware of this.
  •

18. Can I use the canteen at break and lunch times

  • Yes – but you will be limited to certain parts of the canteen.  For cold food and snacks, you will either be allowed to use Little Perc outside or Perc in the canteen.  For hot food, you will be allowed to use one of the serveries.  You will be shown which areas you are allowed to use for your year group on the first day back in school.

19. Can I fill up my water bottle during the day?

  • You should bring a filled water bottle to school each day, more than one if needed.  The water fountains will not be in use as they were before and there will be limited ways in which you may be able to fill your bottles.  We are advising all students to bring their own full bottles to school. You will not be allowed to fill up any bottles during lesson time.

20. What can I do if I am very worried about returning to school?

  • If you are worried about coming back to school, speak to your parents/carers at home. If still worried, ask them to contact your Year Team who will who know how best to support you.
  • A student’s ‘wellbeing’ programme will run throughout the year.
