Horizon is a self-contained base with its own entrance, classrooms and play area.
The base itself was purpose built and has its own science lab, food technology area and dining hall as well as an Occupational Therapy or Hall area and a sensory room. These complement the 7 classroom areas that each have an attached group room as well as dedicated storage.
The base has access to a wide range of technology that can be utilised in lessons, all classrooms are fitted with an interactive whiteboard allowing creative interaction with learning resources and each classroom has its own ICT resource. There are also therapy rooms or other intervention spaces for use during the week.
The base has its own playground and indoor social space for breaks and lunchtimes. KS3 and KS4 have different lunch breaks which helps to maximise space and use of facilities.
From September 2021, there is a newly created post 16 area within the mainstream sixth form area, supporting access to mainstream post 16 study and social facilities whilst also provided in supervised quiet space or social area separate to the busier spaces. A learning mentor is available within the post 16 area for the majority of each day. Post 16 students can also return to the base for interventions or therapy input as needed.
