Lateral Flow Testing 4th/5th January

Lateral Flow Testing

The Government has asked all secondary schools to test students once before they return to school following the Christmas break. Consenting students are not able to return to school until they receive a negative result from their test. After the initial test in school, consenting students will continue to be issued with further rapid test kits to continue testing from home.

Please note all students should attend school on the day/time shown in the schedules below - even if they are not taking part. Students who are not having the test will be directed to their classroom. All students should arrive via the Monkey Puzzle Way entrance.

Students who have tested positive in the past 90 days

If your child has tested positive for Covid-19 with a PCR test in the past 90 days, then they should not take part in our on-site lateral flow testing. If this is the case for your child, please email office@oaksparkhigh.org.uk including a screenshot of your child’s PCR result. Once 90 days have passed, your child will be able to take part in the home rapid flow-testing programme.

On the day of the test

On the day of their test, your child will need to enter the school site via the Monkey Puzzle Way entrance, as they did at the start of September. They will be directed through to the testing site in our Sports Hall. Students will undertake the test themselves but will be guided and supervised through the process by a member of staff. Students are required to wear full school uniform and must bring their lanyard/ID badge to help the registration and identification process run smoothly.

Please do not send your child to school for their test if they are showing symptoms of Covid-19. The on-site lateral flow testing is only for asymptomatic students. If your child is symptomatic on the day of their test, please inform the school and book a PCR test for them using https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

Timeslot

Students will be tested in alphabetical order by year group.  Please see below for your child’s testing time slot. It is vitally important that your child arrives on time for their test in order for us to be able to process the tests effectively.

Mainstream Students

Students in Years 11, 10 and 8 will be tested on Tuesday 4th January 2022. They should arrive in school at the time allocated according to their surname. Please note that they must arrive at their allocated time, as we need to space students out across the time slots for safety reasons. They should not arrive outside of their specified time.

On Tuesday 4th January, students in Years 11 and 10 will be tested and will be able to return to lessons once a negative test result has been obtained.

On Tuesday 4th January, students in Year 8 will only attend school for their test on this day. They will return home immediately after the test. Lessons for Year 8 will not take place on this day.

On Wednesday 5th January, students in Years 7 and 9 will be tested. They should also arrive at the timeslot allocated by their surname. They will be held to wait for a negative test result before returning to their lesson. Students in Years 12 and 13 will be tested from 1.30pm onwards and lessons will start for them from Thursday 6th January.

Ignis students

Slightly different arrangements will take place for Ignis students. Y10 and Y11 students will be tested on Tuesday 4th Jan and will attend lessons as normal. Testing for Y7-9 Ignis students will take place on Wednesday 5th January, after which students will return to lessons.

Results

You will receive the result of your child’s test by text/email from the NHS at the end of the day.

If your child’s test result is negative, then they will be able to return to lessons.
If your child tests positive, you will be contacted to collect them as soon as possible. You must then book them a PCR test to confirm this result (using https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test).

Your child must self-isolate while they wait for the result of the PCR. Other members of your household should also self-isolate while you wait for the result, unless they:

  •   are fully vaccinated

  •   below the age of 18 years 6 month

  •   have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial

  •   are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

  • Please email office@oaksparkhigh.org.uk with the result of your PCR test (whether positive or negative). Your child will not be able to return to school until we have seen this or until their 10 day isolation period is over.
